The coronavirus continues its journey on the planet, and doctors around the world are trying to direct every weapon against the new virus.

The world is already launching a race to create a vaccine - dozens of scientific organizations and pharmaceutical companies are working on it. But, as you know, the development of any vaccine is not a matter of a month. That is why doctors are now using everything possible in the fight against COVID-19.

Recently, scientists announced a new discovery - the BCG vaccine against tuberculosis can to protect us from the coronavirus. This hypothesis was born in the United States, which today leads in the number of confirmed cases of new coronavirus infection.

According to researchers, mortality from COVID-19 is ten times higher in countries where there is no mass vaccination against tuberculosis.

Perhaps this explains the number of people infected with coronavirus infection in our country - just over 600 patients a month after receiving the zero patient. In Bulgaria this one BCG vaccine is included in the National Vaccination Calendar.

Vaccination against tuberculosis is mandatory in more than 60 countries around the world, where the risk of contracting this disease is considered high, especially in Bulgaria, Russia, India, China, South Africa.

In other countries, this vaccine is simply recommended. Somewhere the BCG vaccine is given in part only, for example, only to children at risk, and some countries completely refuse vaccination due to the low TB rate.

The United States has never used the tuberculosis vaccine on a large scale. It is this fact that has become central to the theory of the link between BCG vaccination and coronavirus.

In some European countries, the BCG vaccine was once mandatory, but was later forgotten. Such are Spain, Germany, France, Great Britain.

The situation in Germany is one of the clear proofs of this hypothesis. The eastern part of Germany practices compulsory BCG vaccination. COVID-19 morbidity and mortality in this area are now several times lower than in West Germany.

Of course, this theory is also in question. Critics say the hypothesis does not explain the large number of people infected in China, despite compulsory vaccination in the country.

Proponents of the theory note that during the 1966-1976 Cultural Revolution, vaccination was discontinued, so that a vulnerable population could emerge.

Currently, the most effective thing we can do for our safety is to comply with quarantine and all hygiene rules.
