There is a diet according to which, depending on the glycemic index of the food consumed, the diet is also determined. It will help reduce body weight, regulate blood sugar levels, and protect you from developing cardiovascular disease.

According to its authors, the diet will help a person lose weight and at the same time protect him from type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes) and heart disease.

For this reason, the purpose of the diet is to consume so-called good carbohydrates, whose glycemic index is low. The glycemic index (GI) is understood as the intake of carbohydrates affects the blood sugar in the human body.

Accordingly, the good ones have a lower index. They are absorbed more slowly, and therefore a person feels full for a longer time. At the same time, blood sugar levels are regulated, as well as metabolism.

Thus, eating good carbohydrates such as cereals, fruits and vegetables, apples, carrots will suppress appetite and help lose calories.

On the other hand, bad carbohydrates, which include white bread and potatoes, increase blood sugar levels and hence appetite.

All dieters need to know is the glycemic index of the foods they eat.

Each food product falls on the scale with a glycemic index (GI) from 1 to 100. Pure glucose is number 100. And based on it, three groups of foods are distinguished:

- with a high GI when greater than 70

- with moderate GI when it is between 56-69

- with a low GI when below 55

Here everyone develops an appropriate menu and decides how many and which carbohydrates to consume.

There is controversy about the extent to which this diet would affect a person's health and weight. The reasons are that the combination of different foods, although those with low GI, can also raise blood sugar, which means that there is no clear rule.

However, it is recommended to eat cereal for breakfast, a wholemeal bread sandwich for lunch, and a salad instead of potatoes for dinner, for example.

Consumption of carbohydrates with a low glycemic index helps weight loss. However, there is still conflicting evidence regarding the effectiveness of the diet.
