A large proportion of baby foods contain dangerous chemicals, according to a new study. The data was provided by the NGO Clean Label Project. Behind the claims is a study of more than 530 different species baby foodoffered in the store network of Europe. Dangerous chemicals such as arsenic, lead, cadmium and acrylamide have been found in them.
Of the products analyzed, the researchers found that 65% contained arsenic, 58% contained cadmium, 36% contained lead and 10% contained acrylamide.
It has also been shown that 80 percent of baby food samples contain arsenic, a toxin that the World Health Organization has linked to deadly problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.
The amounts of each chemical vary in each product. In some they are small - from up to 600 parts of arsenic per billion, in others they are significantly higher. Most dangerous foods are based on rice, the data show.
The study also found that baby foods today contain 70% more acrylamide than foods offered 20 years ago, when a similar study of baby foods was done. The accumulation of the chemical in the body leads to serious brain damage and reproductive problems.
The organization also published a list of traders producing dangerous foods. It includes producers of some of the most famous baby food brands, as well as a solid number of small local productions. The analysis of the data shows that the biggest offenders are the big companies. It is stated that the reason for this is the fact that they have a greater ability to deal with possible sanctions.
The study also found that 60% of labeled products stating that bisphenol A was missing were virtually false because analysis showed the presence of the dangerous chemical.
The Clean Label Project reports that nearly 72% of the products found with unregulated substances pose potential health risks, urging mothers to breastfeed their children and prepare their own food with unprocessed products, postponing the collision of newborns with the food industry as much as possible. -long.
