Women in power are much more vulnerable to depression than their male counterparts. This is stated in the results of a recent study by US experts.

For their study, the researchers studied 1,300 members of the stronger sex and 1,500 women - both groups were middle-aged and lived in Wisconsin.

Ladies who have the right to regulate pay, dismiss or hire employees, or in other words, women in power, have more frequent symptoms of depression than women without such rights.

Leading the research team is Professor Tetyana Pudrovska, a sociologist at the University of Texas. She confirms that in men who have power, such symptoms are much less common.

The probable reason for these results is that the ladies who have more power in the workplace and who act with confidence are evaluated negatively by others. This in turn causes chronic stress in women.

As for men's performance, Pudrovska explains that men never have to deal with stereotypes, as is the case with women.

The results of the study also show that women who have more rights in the workplace have higher education than members of the fairer sex in lower positions at work.

In addition, women in prestigious positions earn more money and are more satisfied with their success in life, but their mental health is worse than that of less financially successful women.

This study is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health in the United States and will be published next month in the scientific journal Journal of Health and Social Behavior.

It is possible that the reason why women are more prone to depression is their emotionality, which is often highlighted when it comes to a high job position.

Ladies are often underestimated for more prestigious positions at work under the pretext that they are too emotional and will find it difficult to make decisions.
