Soy sauce contains a compound that can stop the development of AIDS, according to the results of a new American study. The study was led by Professor Stefan Sarafyanos, a specialist in molecular biology and immunology at the Bond Life Sciences Center at the University of Missouri.
As early as 2001, the EFdA molecule was discovered in the soy sauce of the Japanese company Yamasa. Sufficient amounts of EFdA can stop the development of AIDS, according to the results of a US study.
The study showed that EFdA was similar to the antiviral drug Tenofovir (Viread), which is used against the action of the immunodeficiency virus (AIDS).
This drug is also used to treat hepatitis B, viral infections, liver damage and more. Experts believe that EFdA may even protect to some extent from infection with the incurable disease.
This, of course, makes the salty liquid spice extremely valuable for the future of medicine and for humanity, experts are convinced.
All patients treated with HIV with Tenofovir sooner or later develop resistance to the drug, which in turn prevents effective protection against the virus, said study leader Stefan Sarafyanos.
These same patients are less likely to develop resistance to the molecule contained in soy sauce - EFdA. The reason for this is that it acts much faster than the drug and the body breaks it down for a longer time, explains the American specialist in molecular biology and immunology.
Experts hope that in the near future on the basis of both substances will be able to develop a drug that can successfully treat the HIV virus. Japanese producers of soy sauce expect that their product will be the king of one of the most insidious and deadly diseases in our time.
Millions of people around the world suffer from AIDS. The American Foundation for the Study and Treatment of AmfAR annually organizes a charity evening as part of the Cannes Film Festival. This year, the organization raised a record $ 35 million.
